Sony Reviving PlayStation Plus Vote to Play Program

Sony Reviving PlayStation Plus Vote to Play Program

Sony announces the return of the Vote to Play program for PlayStation Plus on PS4, giving users the choice between Broforce, Action Henk!, and Assault Android Cactus.

While February 2016’s free PlayStation Plus games are just now becoming available, Sony is already looking ahead to the popular program’s March lineup. PlayStation Plus subscribers will even have a say in determining one of the games that will be made available for a free download next month, with the chance to choose between three different indie titles.

The games in question are Action Henk!Assault Android Cactus, and Broforce. The first two games are not very well known titles, with Action Henk! being a side-scrolling racer and Assault Android Cactus a traditional twin-stick shooter. Broforce enjoys a little more renown, and is a popular 2D action game with a focus on mayhem and destructible environments.

Voting to decide which of the aforementioned games is added to PlayStation Plus’s March 2016 lineup will begin on Tuesday, February 9th. The poll, accessible through the PlayStation Store on PS4 systems, will stay open until Monday, February 22nd, with Sony expected to announce the winner shortly thereafter. It is unknown at this point if Sony will wait until announcing the rest of the free PS Plus games before declaring a winner, or if the results will be immediately known.

That being said, it almost seems like a foregone conclusion that Broforce is going to take away the victory. After all, the game, while not immensely popular, is almost certainly more well known than the other two options. That combined with its more popular style of gameplay compared to the other two titles give Broforce a significant chance of winning the vote.

While it does seem as though Sony is stacking the vote in favor of Broforce, PS Plus subscribers will nonetheless appreciate the opportunity to once again have some say in what games are added to the service. Some may have assumed that Sony had abandoned its Vote to Play program, so its return is reassuring that gamers will have more opportunities in the future to make their voices heard as well.

It remains to be seen if its return means that the Vote to Play program for PS Plus will become a more permanent fixture of the service. It’s also uncertain if Sony plans on promoting more prominent games through the program in the future, as so far it’s been all small-scale games, with Grow Home the original Vote to Play winner back in September 2015. While there’s room for improvement, it’s good to see Vote to Play make a comeback for PS Plus subscribers.

How do you feel about the return of Sony’s Vote to Play program for PlayStation Plus? Do you plan on voting? If so, which game will you be voting for? Sound off in the comments below and leave us your thoughts about Vote to Play, Action Henk!Assault Android Cactus, and Broforce.
