Although Fallout 4 already features its fair share of creatures in combat, thanks to YouTuber and modder Thuggysmurf, fans of the game will now be able to summon monsters at a moment’s notice with a brand new mod. Dubbed the “Monster Battle Royale at Spectacle Island” mod, when enacted, the installable script spawns various enemies at different locations across the potential Fallout 4 settlement to create a sprawling conflict with the mutated creatures fighting each other as well as players.
The mod instantaneously calls up most, if not all of the open world RPG’s irradiated baddies, with Ghouls, Deathclaws, Radscorpions, Mirelurks, and Super Mutants all taking part in the skirmish. While Thuggysmurf’s creation is definitely a great addition to the ever-growing list of mods making their way into Fallout 4 — with the one allowing weapons mods on all guns perhaps being the most useful — there is a downside in that “Monster Battle Royale” works exclusively at Spectacle Island and nowhere else.
As many Fallout 4 fans may be aware, there have been plenty of similar AI-driven modifications that have cropped up for the title in the past — Cosmic Contrarian’s 20,000 Robots versus the Commonwealth battle video immediately comes to mind as an example — but Thuggysmurf’s works as more of a survival mode for players. In order to get a better notion of what it offers, fans can view the “Monster Battle Royale at Spectacle Island” mod in action with the video below.
Since Thuggysmurf’s script conjures up some of Fallout 4‘s most domineering enemies, it may prove beneficial to run a few other mods in conjunction with “Monster Battle Royale” in order to persevere. As it happens, the modder suggests the game’s jetpack mod (as seen in the clip above), which gives players the chance to take to the skies if things get too hairy. Of course, it might also be a good idea to utilize the mod that makes a monster companion for the Sole Survivor so as to level the playing field.
Due to the fact that Thuggysmurf’s PC mod essentially builds upon Fallout 4‘s existing properties by creating a Horde Mode like those found in Gears of War titles, console fans of the retro-futuristic release would surely be grateful if they could get in on the fun. Thankfully, Bethesda has promised that the mods will eventually make their way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with the release of the game’s Creation Kit mod tools, but no exact date has been set.
There’s no question that Fallout 4 is already chock-full of stuff to do. Nevertheless, the “Monster Battle Royale” mod is an example of a missed opportunity for developers. Including an official survival mode feature could have helped the most recent sequel in the franchise stand out even more so from prior entries. With that being said, though, such an addition may have been detrimental to the overall spirit of Fallout 4, much like with Bethesda’s scrapped multiplayer mode for the release.
Fallout 4 is out now and is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
