BioWare's New IP Will Be 'More Sci-Fi Related'

Details about BioWare’s mysterious upcoming intellectual property have come few and far between, but this week Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen has confirmed one more detail about the game: it’ll be “more Sci-Fi” related, which may indicate that the company’s Mass Effect and Star Wars titles may not be BioWare’s only offerings to integrate futuristic or spacefaring action.

It’s objectively known that the upcoming title will be a gigantic action-oriented game, with EA head honcho Andrew Wilson confirming that the game would ‘blend genres’ to deliver an action-adventure experience, building from RPG roots and placing them into this much more action-oriented world. While he officially described the title as an action-adventure, the EA executive wouldn’t say much more beyond that about the title, though he did confirm that the IP itself was wholly owned by BioWare, unlike other IPs like Star Wars Battlefront.

Edmonton-based BioWare GM Aaron Flynn also promised this January that much more information about the game would finally flow forth in the coming months, which means at a very minimum fans should be able to call the game by its proper title soon and not just refer to it as ‘the mysterious BioWare IP’.  Flynn also revealed that the game has been in production for 5 years now, and that he is unsurprisingly excited and optimistic about the project:

“In 2012, we began crafting a new universe full of new characters, stories, and gameplay. Our ambition is simple: Draw upon 20+ years of development knowledge and lessons to create something fun and new for you to enjoy with your friends. There’s nothing quite as exciting as building a new IP from scratch, and it will be even more thrilling for us to share more with you in the future.”

Two years ago it seemed a certain thing that BioWare Austin would be creating the company’s latest intellectual property with Shadow Realms, but the 4 vs 1 online title went through several rough patches in development before a final attempt to reboot the project ultimately failed. Now, BioWare has its sights locked firmly on this mysterious new action game, but nary a person knows its name – though not for BioWare’s lack of teasing.

More news about the upcoming BioWare intellectual property is expected to be released throughout 2017.
