Overwatch's New Character Teased in Blog Post

Blizzard teases the next hero to come to Overwatch in a blog post, introducing fans to a character that could relate to the next addition to the game’s roster.
Just days ago, Blizzard told fans that the next hero to be added to the Overwatch roster “is not who you think it is,” quelling the popular fan theory and rumor that the character known as Doomfist would be the next addition. Blizzard said Overwatch‘s development team is working on “multiple new heroes,” and it appears that the hype machine for “Number 24” has now officially started.
In a blog post on the official Overwatch website, fans are introduced to 11-year-old Efi Oladele. In the mock news article from Atlas News, a “Spotlight on Numbani” article has an interview with the young girl, who is said to be highly gifted in robotics and artificial intelligence. There isn’t much to go on in the article beyond a quick profile of the fictional character, and fans will no doubt begin to debate whether Efi Oladele herself could be the next hero or whether she is related to whoever it may be.
In the blog post, Efi Oladele receives a large grant, and is asked what she will do with the money. She responds to the question with a tease, “Oh… I have an idea…” followed by, “It’s a secret for now… but my parents are taking me on a trip to celebrate! It’ll be my first time flying, so I can’t wait.”
Overwatch has no shortage of robots and artificial intelligence, with characters like Bastion and Zenyatta, so it’s not a stretch that Efi Oladele could be involved in the creation of the 24th hero. Wherever this trail leads, it could be a long journey. The reveal of Sombra was a drawn out experience of ARGs, hints, and teases for quite a while, but it appears that’s where this road is leading.
This tease paired with Blizzard’s recent comments about the game’s next character surely puts Doomfist out of the running for now. Many fans were already assuming that Doomfist would be next, with the buzz Terry Crews created about wanting to be the character’s voice actor, in addition to the supposed evidence on the game’s PTR.
But leave it Blizzard to keep its rabid fanbase guessing. Again, it is anyone’s best guess about how long it will be before the 24th hero will be added to the roster. While it took a long time for Sombra to come to the game, Ana’s reveal and addition was relatively short.
