The latest trailer for Injustice 2 ditches the boy’s club and gives us a dose of femininity with a focus on the game’s lady combatants. While Black Canary starred in her own highlight trailer a couple weeks ago, this week she joins Catwoman, Cheetah, and Poison Ivy as they show off their moves while spouting copious amounts of sass.
It’s a nice montage of character intros, special moves, and the like, with the inclusion of a first look at Poison Ivy gameplay that, up until now, has not been seen.
Injustice 2 still has a few months to go before it’s released, but developer NetherRealm Studios has been steadily releasing extended looks at the game’s impressive roster of fighters. Yesterday, the studio revealed Swamp Thing, who will be making his first appearance in the series. Being that his powers are also plant-based, it will be interesting to see him pitted against Poison Ivy in a horticulture throwdown. It wasn’t present in the trailer, which feels like a missed opportunity — however, Atrocitus definitely felt nature’s wrath near the end.
While the fans wait patiently for new fighters to be announced, those lucky enough to get access are enjoying the game’s closed beta at the moment. For now, it has a sparse collection of characters that include Batman, Supergirl, Superman, and Atrocitus, with Black Canary being the most recent addition. Unfortunately, open registration is currently closed.
In addition to the regular fighters, Injustice 2 is planning to have what the devs call, a “more aggressive” approach to DLC. That could mean several things, but fans are hoping it means NetherRealm wants to support the game much longer than usual with more playable DLC characters than in previous games from the studio. It’s unclear how many, but the Injustice 2 Ultimate Edition says nine DLC fighters might be on the way.
As it stands, Injustice 2 is sporting an extensive roster, some entirely new gameplay mechanics, and its developer is already pledging a ton of post-launch support. It has doubled-down on content, taking all the right steps in providing a worthy sequel and courting gamers. Additionally, it seems that while their numbers are less, the female fighters will be some of the most fun to play; and there is plenty of evidence in this recent trailer to support that.
Injustice 2 is set to release on May 16, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
