Ni No Kuni 2 Kingdom Building And New System Teased

Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino reveals more about the upcoming RPG Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, discussing kingdom building and dropping hints about a new system.
The Ni No Kuni series has ticked plenty of boxes for RPG fans, with the Level-5 franchise allowing gamers to play in a world that felt incredibly close to those created by Studio Ghibli. Although the acclaimed animation studio is not directly involved this time around, Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom certainly seems to follow in the same path as Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Now, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino has been able to give fans of the title an update on what to expect from the sequel.
Speaking in an interview for an issue of Famitsu (as translated by Siliconera), Hino not only talked about kingdom building in Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, but also teased a brand new system for the game. This new system, although missing the specifics, will apparently be “enough to make you want to make a game around it.”
“A new system that is precisely for the kingdom building will appear,” said Hino in the interview. Although players are not going to directly build the kingdoms themselves, instead relying on construction by “placing staff,” not all kingdoms will end up the same. “Players will get to decide on what kind of kingdoms they’ll make,” explained Hino, “so they’ll get to enjoy having their own kingdoms that are different from other players.”
Interestingly enough, however, the CEO was also happy to briefly tease another system. “Again this is a different element from the kingdom building, but the field maps are being drawn in diorama-like fashion, and there’s a very big secret to it that involves one other major new system,” said Hino. Unfortunately, details were not forthcoming. “I can’t say more about it, but this single system alone is enough to make you want to make a game around it, and it’s a highly anticipated system for us.”
Fans will no doubt be intrigued to find out more about this system, and about the game itself. The game’s initial trailer was enough to get the hopes up for many, with the title promising much of the same wondrous style as the first Western release for the franchise. Although news has not always been easy to come by regarding the game, a further update during PlayStation Experience 2016 certainly put the minds of gamers at ease.
Of course, Level-5 will not always stick so firmly to the PS4 and Sony devices for all its games, as shown by the Yo-Kai Watch series. Indeed, not only is Ni No Kuni 2 set for a PC release, but the developer has even promised that it will be releasing games for the Nintendo Switch in the future. For now, though, no doubt Ni No Kuni 2 remains the studio’s highest priority.
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom will released for PS4 and PC, and will launch sometime in 2017.
