Earlier today, the PS Plus free PS4 games for January 2016 were revealed, but Sony was a bit slow on revealing the rest of the games coming to the service next month. For PlayStation owners anxious to know exactly which games will be making their way to the PS3 and PS Vita next week, the wait is over, as Sony has now revealed the full list of January 2016’s free PlayStation Plus games.
First up for PlayStation 3 owners is Dragon Age: Origins, BioWare’s classic medieval RPG. The first Dragon Age was critically-acclaimed at the time of its release, and is one of BioWare’s most celebrated games of the last generation. Even so, there are many that have yet to delve into the Dragon Age franchise, so Origins being available as a free download offers the perfect opportunity to do just that.
The second PS3 game that will be available for download next month didn’t release to quite the same enthusiasm as Dragon Age, but it’s another AAA title nonetheless. It comes in the form of Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and it should still be worth a download for fans of the military shooter genre. Check out our Medal of Honor: Warfighter review for more info on that particular title.
Meanwhile, PS Vita owners are a little spoiled in January, as owners of Sony’s fledgling handheld will be able to download three games instead of two. The first is shared with the PS4, and it’s the headlining game for the service in January, Grim Fandango Remastered. A remaster of one of gaming’s most cherished cult classics, Grim Fandango Remastered is certainly a significant addition to the PS Plus Instant Game Collection in January.
The other two games available on the Vita are much more obscure than Grim Fandango. There’s Legends of War Patton, a game from the History Channel, and the puzzle platformer Nihilumbra. The latter earned a decent amount of critical acclaim since its debut on iOS devices in 2012, and came to the Vita in January earlier this year, so it’s somewhat fitting that it is joining the Instant Game Collection a year after its official release.
Overall, the PS Plus selections from Sony for January 2016 seem decent enough, with a mixture of indie titles and high budget releases. There’s also plenty of variety when it comes to the genres of the games available, which is something that PS Plus subscribers will likely appreciate. In any case, Sony is looking to kick off 2016 for PS Plus with a bang, and so far it looks like they’ve succeeded on that front.
The aforementioned games, along with Grim Fandango Remastered and Hardware: Rivals on PS4, will all be available to download through the PS Plus Instant Game Collection on January 5th. At that point, December 2015’s PS Plus titles will disappear from the service, so be sure to snag them while there’s still time.
