For those unaware, the developers for Horizon: Zero Dawn released a cinematic story trailer yesterday in order to provide fans with a better idea of what Guerrilla Games’ upcoming release is all about, with the footage featuring some of the title’s environments, potential enemies in the form of masked warriors, and light plot details about the protagonist Aloy‘s motivation to fight for her people. Admittedly, the game’s latest trailer was chock full of never-before-seen materials, which caused some folks to scrutinize the clip a little bit more closely, with many discovering that The Wire and Fringe‘s Lance Reddick plays a role within Horizon: Zero Dawn.
As seen around roughly the 1:24 mark in the story trailer published by Sony on YouTube, Reddick appears to be somewhat of a neutral ally to Aloy, as he tells her, “You’ve come a long way since the citadel, Aloy.” Interestingly, this prompts Aloy to ask “Who are you?” Reddick’s character responds, “An interested party,” leaving fans to wonder exactly what kind of figure the actor portrays within Horizon: Zero Dawn.
At this point in time, there’s no telling who or what Reddick’s role in Horizon: Zero Dawn is, much less when he will show up in the plot and the kinds of incentives that the figure will present as the game progresses. Interestingly enough, searching through Lance Reddick’s IMDB page doesn’t turn up any additional clues, as Horizon: Zero Dawn hasn’t even shown up on the actor’s filmography yet.
As many gaming fans may be aware, Horizon: Zero Dawn won’t be the first instance of Reddick taking on a role as a video game character. For instance, not only did he play Martin Hatch in Remedy Entertainment’s 2016 title Quantum Break, but also he snagged a role in one of the major expansions for Bungie’s science fiction shooter Destiny as well. To be specific, Reddick provided the voice for The Taken King DLC‘s Commander Zavala.
When it comes to the narrative details for Horizon: Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games has gone on record to state that it doesn’t want to reveal everything about the title’s plot, characters, and world before players get a chance to experience it for themselves. As the developer explained, it would rather have fans jump into the game with their own sense of purpose and drive to explore the landscapes in Horizon: Zero Dawn in order to find answers for themselves. With this being the case, it’s unlikely that Guerrilla Games will fully explicate the purpose for Lance Reddick’s character before the game’s release date.
Horizon: Zero Dawn is set to release on February 28, 2017 in North America, and on March 1, 2017 in the United Kingdom for PlayStation 4.
