A couple of months ago, a listing for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series confirmed it as being the Marvel video game Telltale planned for 2017 after the union behind October’s SAG-AFTRA strike updated a list of games on its website that were not impacted by the strike. Now, it seems as if yet another major announcement for the forthcoming title is being made by an unintentional listing, with GameStop having shown on its website that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is slated for a release on April 25, 2017.
As of now, GameStop has since scrubbed the release date for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series from the listing, with the video game retailer currently not showing a launch date at all. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop some fans from being able to secure photographic evidence of the company showing the title as having an April release, as outlets such as WWG took a screenshot of the original listing.
In addition to GameStop potentially outing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series‘ release date, the video game retailer has also published the forthcoming title’s synopsis on its website. Since the description of the plot only covers the narrative on a surface level, we’ve decided to post the summary of the Guardian of the Galaxy game’s story below the next image. Of course, should one wish to avoid spoilers of any kind, it would be best to stop reading altogether right here.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot.
In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands.
From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.
Although it has yet to be confirmed, there’s the possibility that the plot for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series could touch on events before or after the comic book company’s upcoming film sequel of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Plus, should the GameStop listing for the video game’s release date be correct, it would have the Telltale title launching about a week before the movie’s theatrical release in May.
Beyond the plot points posted above, not much else is known in regards to the contents of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. As a matter of fact, as far as official promotional assets from the developer are concerned, the only scrap given by Telltale so far is its official trailer, which is incredibly short, and offers practically no details other than that the studio will put out a Guardians of the Galaxy game.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series won’t be the first instance of the studio tackling a comic book superhero-driven title. As it happens, the developer has handled a DC Comics property with Batman: The Telltale Series. While fans have been impressed with the narrative arc centered around the Dark Knight, the first couple of episodes initially encountered some problems on PC and also had major issues on PS4 and Xbox One. With that being the case, one can only hope that Telltale Games is able to avoid any huge technical errors at the outset with its Guardians of the Galaxy series.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series is in production for mobile devices, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
