Injustice 2 Release Date Confirmed

Injustice 2 Release Date Confirmed

The Creative Director of NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon, officially announces the release date of the developer’s forthcoming fighting game Injustice 2.

Just a couple of days ago, Injustice 2 game director Ed Boon clarified that the title’s March 28 release date leak was a fake after hearing the circulating rumors and taking to his personal Twitter account to squash the scuttlebutt. Now the NetherRealm Studios Creative Director has decided to set Injustice 2‘s launch date straight once and for all by providing fans with a clear cut answer as to when it will be available.

As seen in the tweet from Ed Boon below, the Injustice 2 director announced the fighting game’s release date with absolutely no frills. Rather than put out an exorbitant release date trailer for the title, the image simply declares Injustice 2 as launching on May 16, 2017.

Up until now, Injustice 2 fans have been wildly speculating about the fighting game’s release date ever since it was revealed by way of a trailer roughly seven months ago. As it stands, the only hearsay to even be remotely close to Ed Boon’s official announcement of the title’s launch was GameStop’s company earnings report showing the title releasing in the first half of 2017.

Of course, with Injustice 2 currently having a release date on the books, the next item on most fans’ agendas is finding out what the game’s full roster will be. So far, NetherRealm Studios has announced several heroes and villains with familiar faces like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash joining newcomers such as Supergirl, Atrocitus, Gorilla Grodd, and Suicide Squad members Harley Quinn and Deadshot.

Considering the fact that Injustice 2‘s official launch date is almost five months away, NetherRealm Studios has plenty of time to expand the cast of characters for the game. As a matter of fact, Ed Boon and his development team have already been testing the waters with fans, asking them if they would like to see DC Comics’ Watchmen characters join the roster. Plus, it seems as if NetherRealm is intent on following a tradition of the original entry in the series by expanding the fighters outside of the DC Comics stable by including figures like Sub Zero and Spawn.

Whatever the case may be regarding the rest of Injustice 2‘s character list, it’s most important that NetherRealm Studios delivers a sequel that not only manages to retain the best parts of the original’s gameplay, but also refines the first installment’s flaws in a satisfying way. Whether or not the developer can do so remains to be seen, but it’s safe to presume that Injustice 2 will continue to remain as one of the most anticipated video games of 2017 until it releases later this May.

Injustice 2 is set to be released on May 16, 2017, with the only confirmed platforms so far being PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
