Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Boss Battles

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Boss Battles

Deus Ex: Human Revolution – precursor to Eidos Montreal’s upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – had its fair share of revolutionary gameplay moments due to a deft blend of dialogue, FPS-elements, and stealth-driven tactics, but one of the major disappointments came from the cyberpunk-themed release’s boss fights. Such a fumble was likely caused by the outsourcing of those stages during production, which resulted in fans being frustrated that they were forced into battle after trying to ghost the game.

Nevertheless, Eidos Montreal has been open about Human Revolution‘s flaws, admitting to inconsistencies in development, and promising to get encounters with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s big baddies right this time around. While Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s main director Jean-François Dugas has already mentioned the fact that players can complete it with no fatalities using stealth, gameplay director Patrick Fortier and narrative director Mary DeMarle have recently sounded off on the issue as well.

In an interview with Official Xbox Magazine, the two Eidos Montreal team members discussed the significance in giving players all the choices that the main game offers in the boss fights as well. Regarding the matter, Fortier says:

“It’s all about supporting all the different play aspects. . . . There are ways to stealth them, there are ways to beat them in combat, and there are conversations you can have that maybe give you a different means of dealing with the situation altogether.”

Adding on to the gameplay director’s statements, Mary DeMarle further explicates the issue, saying:

“You can also decide to do it lethally or not. For Human Revolution, because of the way we designed it, [the bosses] always died in the cutscenes. You had no choice. But we rectified that in the Missing Link DLC, and we’ve rectified it in this game.”

Taking these reports into account, this means that the way players choose to defeat bosses will directly affect Mankind Divided‘s narrative as the game progresses, which should give fans of the series yet another component to be excited about. And truthfully, by including such options, the development team is set to provide the most comprehensive Deus Ex experience yet.

As a matter of fact, if the title’s E3 2015 gameplay demo is any indication of even a fraction of what Eidos Montreal has in store for the upcoming release, gamers will have plenty of action to keep them satisfied for months on end once it goes on sale. Not to mention, Mankind Divided‘s future setting ought to give sci-fi dystopian junkies plenty of prescient plot points to digest and pick apart.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is set for release some time in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
