At the moment, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is shaping up to be a strong addition to the Deus Ex franchise. The follow-up to 2011’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the title looks set to build upon the success of its predecessor, bringing a nightmarish future setting forward in more detail. Meanwhile, developer Eidos Montreal also showed that some of the criticisms of Human Revolution had been taken on board, with a promised emphasis on a return to stealth mechanics that could see players complete Mankind Divided without killing anyone.
Fans of the series, however, still had questions that needed answers. With Eidos Montreal and Square Enix still coy about finite details, many were left wondering about Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’s specific gameplay elements and features. Thankfully, gamers did not have long to wait, as many features of the title surfaced at E3 2015. Would-be players had a first look at the game in action through a debut gameplay trailer, whilst demonstrations from the expo itself suggested that title further refined the gameplay of its predecessors.
Now, Deus Ex fans have been given another intriguing detail about the sequel. Square Enix has revealed that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will include a New Game Plus mode, granting players the chance to play through the game after it has been completed once. the The news was revealed by DXTV via Twitch, before then being released on the Deux Ex official YouTube channel.
The New Game Plus mode will allow gamers to play through the title’s campaign from the beginning, after Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been initially completed. However, players will be able to keep any upgrades and augmentations that they have chosen during their first playthrough, giving them the chance to explore levels for more secrets to uncover. Meanwhile, there is also the possibility that enemies will be scaled to be tougher opponents, as was mentioned on Deus Ex’s official Twitter profile.
The video also explains some of the other features that the new Deus Ex will include. According to the development team, the title will feature more UI customization than in the previous title, catering to those who enjoy the augmented reality aesthetic and those who would prefer a more traditional HUD. Meanwhile, the developers further reiterated the emphasis on the single player experience, with different play styles welcomed and an emphasis put on the importance of player choices on the overall plot.
With a New Game Plus mode being added to the title, many gamers will be wondering how well this will work with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’s stealth mechanics. Although Eidos Montreal has explained that the game’s bosses cannot be beaten with dialogue options alone, players will still have the chance to defeat them through non-lethal means. Fans will no doubt be hoping that those focused on pacifist playthroughs will still be well equipped to beat the game a second time.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is scheduled to release in 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
