The Winter Wonderland update might be done with, but there’s still new content coming to Blizzard’s first-person shooter, Overwatch, as the company announces that new map Oasis is now available on all platforms.
As a new update is released to remove Overwatch‘s Christmas-themed event from the game, Blizzard has been extra generous to players as we move into 2017. Oasis, which is releasing globally at the time of this article’s writing, is a Control map set in one of the world’s most advanced cities, situated in the Arabian Desert.
The city was founded by researches and academics from all over the region, coming together to dedicate an area to scientific progress without restraints – a monument to human ingenuity and invention. Like all future DLC maps and characters, Oasis is free for all players who own the base game to access and play.
According to Blizzard, all inhabitants of the city are governed by the Ministries, a collection of brilliant minds who are in the possession of many secrets, and who have attracted the attention of powerful organizations all around the world. It looks like that’s all the information we’ll be getting out of the developer for now, but there’s sure to be plenty of secrets to discover in-game that will help to uncover more of the Overwatch backstory.
For those fans who are more heavily-invested in Overwatch, this might not be your first experience with the map which has been on the Public Test Realm since last month. The Arabian Desert setting will feature multiple jump pads scattered around the map, as well as deadly cars that drive across the highways and are capable of killing players who aren’t paying enough attention to their surroundings.
Oasis is the first new map release that will be available in Quick Play and Competitive modes since Eichenwalde’s debut back in August of 2016. Shortly after the Germanic map was added into the game, players uncovered a Dark Souls Easter Egg inside Eichenwalde Castle.
Now that Oasis has become available to all players, it’s likely only a matter of time before the first secret tributes and Easter Eggs, possibly including hints to future hero Doomfist, begin to be found so be sure to stay tuned for more news as it comes in.
Overwatch is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The Oasis update is rolling out worldwide now on all platforms.
