God of War: 'Whole Game' is Playable Internally

God of War game director Cory Barlog answers fan questions on Twitter, revealing that the entire game is playable from start to finish at Sony Santa Monica.

Ever since the game was revealed in a stunning gameplay presentation at E3 2016, updates on the new God of War have been few and far between. Some may take this as a sign that the game is still very early in development, but recent comments by game director Cory Barlog suggest that it may actually be nearing the end of the cycle.

Barlog took to Twitter to answer fan questions, and while he didn’t reveal many specifics about the new God of War, he did let a few things slip. Namely, Barlog revealed that the entire game is playable from start to finish at Sony Santa Monica where it’s being developed. There’s still likely many months of polish left, but based on these comments, it’s not unreasonable to believe that God of War will be ready in time to launch next holiday season.

Not only is the game playable from start to finish, but Barlog also revealed that the motion capture cutscenes for the game have been shot. Overall, it sounds like God of War is well on its way to meeting its deadlines and releasing to the masses in a timely manner.

As for when fans can expect to see more of God of War, Barlog has given some indication of that as well. Barlog has promised that “something special” will happen when the E3 trailer for God of War hits 15 million views, which seems to suggest that fans can expect a new trailer for the game to launch once the trailer’s view count hits that magic number. At the time of this writing, the trailer has passed 14 million views, and is climbing at a faster rate after Barlog’s promise.

Besides a new trailer, it’s hard to imagine what Barlog is talking about when he says “something special.” Maybe he’ll just reveal more gameplay details, or elaborate on teased features, like the game’s alternate gameplay paths. Another possibility is that fans will be treated to the same footage as before, except running on a PS4 Pro as a way to show how the game will look when running on Sony’s upgraded console.

If a new God of War trailer doesn’t hit the Internet once the previous one hits 15 million views, it’s likely fans will have to wait until next year’s E3 to see more of the game. However, if development is going as well as Barlog makes it seem, hopefully they won’t have to wait much longer after that to actually get their hands on the upcoming PS4 exclusive.
