After DICE and Electronic Arts provided Battlefield 1 fans with an advanced look at its French army DLC with a teaser image, the companies have decided to prepare the World War I-inspired shooter’s player base with even more glimpses at the work-in-progress. As it happens, the game’s developers have now released five separate pieces of concept art for Battlefield 1‘s forthcoming expansion, They Shall Not Pass, offering a prospective idea of what will be included in the first of four paid expansion packs.
As described in a blog post from DICE and Electronic Arts, the new images for Battlefield 1‘s They Shall Not Pass DLC are to be considered “concept exploration images” of the expansion’s multiplayer maps. While the pieces of artwork are indicative of the how the developers initially want the new arenas to look, it’s important to note that none of the shots are final.
As found in Battlefield 1‘s They Shall Not Pass concept designs below, the maps are representative of the Battle of Verdun in France. As DICE explains, there were around 1 million shells fired in the opening portion of the battle, which led to forest fires in the fight, with the developer attempting to portray the flames as realistically as possible in the DLC maps. DICE’s version of the Samogneux village will be the focus of one of the maps, while another area will represent the battles that occurred inside Fort Vaux.
Another one of the maps in Battlefield 1‘s They Shall Not Pass DLC will highlight a battlefield that was absolutely obliterated by artillery shells. According to DICE, there were around 40 million shells fired during the whole Battle of Verdun, “turning the earth into a shattered lunar landscape.” Furthermore, the developer has confirmed that at least one of the maps will feature “underground fortresses,” with the most likely candidate being the arena inspired by Fort Vaux.
On top of Battlefield 1‘s new maps in They Shall Not Pass, fans will also receive more weapons and dog tags. Not to mention, those who own the game’s Premium Pass will be able to play the forthcoming expansion and the other three DLC packages two weeks before other fans can purchase them.
Until then, however, fans will have to be content with DICE and Electronic Arts’ materials for the game thus far, with notable post-launch content including a free map known as Giant’s Shadow. Plus, there’s plenty of action to be had in Battlefield 1‘s latest Custom Game mode that was added several days ago with Eye to Eye offering close-quarters combat with shotguns-only and no health regeneration. Thankfully, fans have plenty of materials for Battlefield 1 to tide them over until They Shall Not Pass drops sometime in March 2017.
Battlefield 1 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
