In late 1987 the original Final Fantasy released in Japan and kicked off one of the most epic RPG franchises of all-time. It has been 29 years since the launch of the first installment and fans are still busy exploring the latest adventure in Final Fantasy 15. According to a recent leak, there will be even more celebrating in 2017 as Square Enix starts the official 30th anniversary party.
Sources at vgleaks suggest that Square Enix has a very ambitious line of products coming in the next year. These reports have not been confirmed by Square yet (nor does vgleaks share its source), so take this info with a heavy dose of salt. For the main Final Fantasy releases in 2017, the source claims that Square Enix will launch the Final Fantasy VII: Remake (first episode) and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
That is already a lot more excitement than Final Fantasy fans are used to receiving in one year, but the report suggests that is just the time of the iceberg. The rumor goes on to suggest that Square Enix will also release the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy on PS4 in 2017.
“The bundle will include Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 and Lightning Returns on separate discs to be enjoined in 1080p and 60fps.”
As if that’s not enough, the rumor also claims that there will be a Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Collection released in 2017 for PS4 and PS Vita. This collection will feature loads of content including Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX. Here are the rest of the Anniversary Collection details according to the source…
The report goes on to detail three variations of the Anniversary Collection. As fans might expect, it looks like there will be a limited edition collector’s version to fight over…
If all of this is true, then Final Fantasy fans are in for a ridiculously busy and exciting year. 2017 is just around the corner, so stay on standby for an official confirmation from Square Enix about some, or all, of these products. Check back here for updates.
