Last year, Electronic Arts and DICE launched Star Wars Battlefront to decent reviews and strong sales. The game has received consistent support from the studio ever since, including free content updates and paid expansions that add everything from new characters to new maps to the game. It’s been a good year for Star Wars Battlefront fans, and DICE is looking to finish its post-launch support of the game in style, with DLC based on the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The Rogue One DLC for Star Wars Battlefront will be available in just a couple of weeks time, launching December 6th across all platforms. The expansion’s official name is Rogue One: Scarif, and it features four new maps for players to battle it out on, including its namesake Scarif, which is a tropical planet that has been spotted in trailers for the film.
Besides four new maps, Star Wars Battlefront‘s Rogue One DLC is also adding two new hero characters to the mix. Joining the likes of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo are Jyn Erso, a Rebel ally who is tasked with stealing the Death Star plans, and Orson Krennic, who plays an instrumental role in the creation of the deadly battle station.
The aforementioned characters and maps will be available to anyone that purchases the DLC or has already signed up for the game’s season pass. However, December 6th will also be exciting for Star Wars Battlefront players that aren’t willing to break out the checkbook. On top of the paid DLC, there will be some free content coming to players as well.
This free content will include the addition of a “new game mode” that focuses on both “space and ground combat.” Further details on this new mode are unavailable at this time, but we do know that the other free piece of content is the Rogue One VR mission. When the latter is added to the game, those with PlayStation VR headsets will be able to experience the thrill of piloting an X-Wing in Star Wars Battlefront while immersed in virtual reality.
From the VR mission to the new characters, game mode, and maps, December 6th is shaping up to be a big day for Star Wars Battlefront fans. This significant content should give players plenty to do while they wait for news on 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2, and should help Star Wars Battlefront go out with a bang.
Star Wars Battlefront is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Rogue One: Scarif expansion will be available on December 6th for all platforms.
