Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is one of the most anticipated games of 2016, and some people got a new trailer for the game shown before some screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this weekend. But as of this morning, the trailer as well as a short behind the scenes featurette also shown at theaters, have been officially released online.
Here’s the short trailer, titled “Man Behind the Treasure”:
The trailer doesn’t reveal much new information about the game itself. It’s a much more emotional, cinematic teaser for the game. The game’s main character Nathan Drake can be seen shooting and trying to save his brother, Sam, a new addition to the Uncharted cast (voiced and acted by industry veteran Troy Baker). Another new character appearing in Uncharted 4 is also in the trailer, Nadine Ross.
The focus is all on Drake in this trailer as he gives the voice over:
“Nathan Drake, that two-bit thief, risking it all for some piece of treasure.” I guess that’s how they know me. How they’ll remember me. But that’s not who I am.
This trailer reinforces the themes that Naughty Dog has been discussing since Uncharted 4 was announced, primarily the tension between pursuing one’s passion and being with loved ones. In this last entry in the Uncharted series, players find Drake retired from treasure hunting until his brother Sam suddenly reappears in his life. Drawn back into one last job, Drake will no doubt have to sort out what is most important to him.
There has been a sense of finality with Uncharted 4. After all, the subtitle is “A Thief’s End.” Even in this trailer Drake says “how they’ll remember me.” No one knows how Drake’s story will end, but Naughty Dog has said they’re working hard to get it right, even delaying the game to do so.
Also debuting with this latest trailer is a behind the scenes feature, with interviews from Naughty Dog developers and the Uncharted voice cast, with a big focus on Uncharted 4 being like playing through a summer blockbuster. All the in-game footage shown within the feature has been seen in previous trailers, but there are some behind-the-scenes shots of Nolan North and Troy Baker, the actors who play Nathan and Sam Drake respectively, performing on a mocap stage.
Uncharted 4 releases exclusively on PlayStation 4 on March 18, 2016.
