Another day, another comical Battlefield 1 moment. If there’s one thing Battlefield 1 has going for it right now, it’s that the random bugs and events players experience provide entertainment for gamers, and free publicity for the EA and DICE shooter. And considering the stiff competition Battlefield 1 faces this holiday shopping season, any bit of free PR is good.
The latest “Only in Battlefield” moment to make the rounds is the result of two armored World War I machines coming into contact. As the below GIF shows, a player riding the Behemoth train takes on an enemy tank, only to send it hurling through the air at break-neck speeds.
Such antics have come to be a normal part of the Battlefield experience. Already in Battlefield 1, players have seen burning blimp tornadoes whip flames across the map, players defy gravity while changing seats in an upside down biplane, and now the smallest shove from a train send a heavy tank soaring through the sky like a beach ball. But of course, this has always been the Battlefield way.
Those who played Battlefield 4 are likely familiar with how skittish the LAV-25 is on water. In fact, pretty much any time a LAV attempts to dip its toe in the bloody waters of any Battlefield 4 map, the LAV would get launched into the air, sometimes across the entire map, occasionally taking out planes and helicopters in its path.
So it really comes as no surprise that Battlefield 1, which is built on the same base Frostbite engine as its predecessors, would encounter similar bugs and glitches with its own vehicles. And if it’s anything like Battlefield 4, this bug won’t be fixed anytime soon. Despite knowing about the Battlefield 4 LAV water issue for months, even years, the bug has yet to be corrected.
So will the tank-chucking train bug ever see a solution? Probably not. But maybe it shouldn’t be fixed. While there are many gamers who point to Battlefield 1’s impressive accuracy and depiction of World War I in many respects, it’s important to remember that it’s still a video game. And sometimes the silly bugs are what makes a game endearing and enjoyable.
With Battlefield 1 barely a week old since launch, there are bound to be many more similar “Only in Battlefield” moments discovered in the coming days, weeks, and months. Plus, once EA and DICE start dropping DLCs, there will be plenty more to discover on new maps, with new vehicles and situations. Until then, players will continue to test the boundaries of Frostbite and Battlefield 1, occasionally taking a break to enjoy the game’s Easter Egg hunts and compelling story.
What do you think about the tank vs. train moment in Battlefield 1? Should it be fixed, or is it just another fun-loving aspect of the Battlefield franchise?
Battlefield 1 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
