Outlast 2 Demo Appears Unexpectedly

Outlast 2 now has a playable demo, currently available on the European PlayStation Store, allowing players to get a taste of the horrifying game that’s set to release in 2017.
For all the horror fans out there, developer Red Barrels Studio has sneakily released a demo for their upcoming game Outlast 2, available now on the European PlayStation Store.
If you’re a PlayStation fan in Europe or Australia, Outlast 2‘s demo version is free to download right now. The release was announced through a sneaky acrostic found on the Red Barrels Facebook page in the form of a developer diary back in September. Presumably, the demo will be coming to the rest of the world shortly so be sure to keep checking that PlayStation Store for updates.
The demo features cameraman Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with his wife Lynn. The couple are a pair of investigative journalists tasked with following a trail of clues that began with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant women known only as Jane Doe. The demo states that the investigation has driven the pair to the Arizona desert, “to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do.”
Last we heard, Outlast 2 was being delayed until the first quarter of 2017, despite initially aiming for a 2016 release date. While this was sad to hear for fans of horror everywhere, Red Barrels Studio assured us that it was only to ensure that the game would be ready, containing “the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible.”
From what we’ve seen of the upcoming title’s gameplay footage, the sequel to 2013’s Outlast looks to rival if not outclass the original in terms of the amount of nightmares it brings to its players. In the game, one unlucky, camera-wielding protagonist will run for his life through dark cornfields, pursued by murderous psychopaths and more, while being sure to document everything in sight. Much like with the first game, using the camera’s night-vision mode to see in dark places is sure to be a very much present feature in Outlast 2.
For those who haven’t played the first title by Red Barrels Studio yet, there’s still plenty of time to catch up before 2017. Outlast is considered by many to be one of the best horror games in this generation of gaming, as well as making our list of 2013’s best indie games. Armed with little more than their trust camera, the protagonist must explore an insane asylum full of disturbed, violent psychopaths, including a creepy doctor who will stick in the mind of the player, long after their playthrough is over.
Outlast 2 is set for launch during Q1 of 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
