The Mafia series of games has given players a fairly broad variety over the years, starting in the 1930s before jumping forward to the era of the 1940s and 1950s. The upcoming Mafia 3 is no different, moving gamers down to New Orleans-alike New Bordeaux in 1968, and putting them in control of a brand new protagonist in the form of Lincoln Clay. One thing that does tie all the games together, however, is violence.
Now, fans of the series looking forward to this sequel have received a new trailer that shows a little of what violence is like in Mafia 3. The trailer specifically looks at the weapons that the game will include, showcasing how Lincoln Clay uses a variety of tools to take on all comers. Describing each and every item in Clay’s arsenal as a “precision instrument of death,” it seems as though the player character of the title will have plenty of power at his disposal.
Everything from pistols through to rocket launchers seems to be available, as well as explosives such as molotov cocktails and C4. As well as this, the trailer also hints at some of the options that players may have to tweak their weapons, such as hollow point rounds and silencers. Those interested in seeing the video in action, to get a glimpse at what weapons will be available before the game’s October 7 release date, can do so below.
The trailer shows a little bit of a different edge to the game in comparison to what has been seen before. After all, Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13 has so far indicated that its game has a dark focus and heavy subject matter, with a subtext of racial and Vietnam War-themed tension. This trailer, however, gives perhaps not a lighter tone, but at least one that allows Clay to more than hold his own.
A lot is expected of Mafia 3, particularly after the game’s impressive showing at E3 this year. In fact, the title was seen by many as one of the best games of E3 2016, with particular praise for its gang-building mechanics and interesting characters. If the title manages to reach these expectations, then players could have a very good game on their hands.
Indeed, Mafia 3 has certainly shown a lot of promise so far, with an intriguing story of brooding revenge and redemption and some truly vicious combat. Of course, previous games in the series have received a mixed reception upon release, but Hangar 13 and 2K Games will be aiming for the title to improve upon its predecessors. With the game’s launch in October fast approaching, it won’t be long before gamers are able to see exactly what Mafia 3 is all about.
Mafia 3 will be released on October 7, 2016, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
