Virtual reality is undoubtedly the next big move for gaming. With VR headsets launching soon and a handful of developers already hard at work releasing titles, there’s a lot to look forward to. And thanks to a recent interview with Sega’s European head, Jurgen Post, there’s now another reason to be excited for virtual reality: Alien: Isolation.
While speaking with the folks at MCV, Post shared his perspective on the future of Sega and the opportunities available to the developer. During the conversation, Post revealed that Sega is looking into virtual reality, and that there’s a possibility of seeing Alien: Isolation make it to VR. Post said:
We did Alien: Isolation about three years ago on Oculus Rift, it was a demo that was bloody scary. To bring that back to VR would be a dream and dreams can come true.
Those who played 2014’s Alien: Isolation will immediately understand how well the game would align with virtual reality. They would also agree with Post that such an experience would be incredibly scary, but also impressively compelling. The whole idea behind virtual reality is an immersive experience that casts players as the starring character in a game. Alien: Isolation could be one of the most unique and thrilling virtual reality games both now and well into the future.
Based on Post’s comments, it looks like Alien: Isolation isn’t the only game the developer is considering for virtual reality. The team at Sega already has a number of VR kits and are working on practice titles to help them learn the system. Post said:
VR has caught the whole company’s attention. We have a lot of VR kits in the office and people are playing with it. We are exploring ways to release games. We’ve not announced anything, but we are very close to making an announcement… VR will take time, but we will start releasing some titles just to learn. It is a platform for the future.
It would be amazing if that announcement was Alien: Isolation, but chances are players will have to wait a little while before seeing the action-adventure horror game make it to virtual reality. Based on the timeline presented by Post, the crew at Sega will likely release some small titles as practice runs before turning to more advanced projects, like Alien: Isolation. That said, there’s no reason Sega couldn’t plan for an Alien: Isolation VR game soon in an effort to capture attention and sales as virtual reality prepares to boom in the gaming industry.
What do you think about Post’s comments? Would you like to see Alien: Isolation come to virtual reality?
Alien: Isolation is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
