Season one of Overwatch‘s competitive play has just ended, but while players are winding down, practicing, or indulging in some Lucioball, Blizzard are already hard at work preparing for the next competitive season. A new update has recently gone live for the PC public test realm of the game, and while there are a number of expected character balance changes and tweaks to how competitive mode is played, it appears that Blizzard have sneaked in a secret – yet incredibly hilarious – change into Overwatch‘s PC chat feature.
One Redditor discovered that the dismissive expression “gg ez” – short for “good game, easy” – used by PC players is no longer available for gamers. But rather than block players from using the “gg ez” expression, Blizzard instead decided to replace it with a series of funny (and often embarrassing) sayings. The new sayings range from the shameful, such as “Mommy says people my age shouldn’t suck their thumbs” and “C’mon, Mom! One more game before you tuck me in! Oops mistell,” to tamer and more respectful sayings, such as “It was an honor to play with you all. Thank you.” and “Good game! Best of luck to you all!“.
This humorous new change is actually unlisted in the PTR patch notes, and it is currently unclear whether Blizzard intends to implement this new feature into Overwatch come next season. But given Blizzard’s intent on promoting positive playing behavior in the game, as well as its penchant for handling trolls in a professional yet funny manner, there is a good chance that funny sayings like “It’s past my bedtime. Please don’t tell my mommy.” will be the new “gg ez”.
As for upcoming changes that have been confirmed for Overwatch, players can expect a series of character balance changes, particularly for Genji, Mei, and Mercy. In addition to the never-ending quest to perfectly balance the game’s roster of heroes, Blizzard has also been hard at work on a new map called Eichenwalde, though its release date has still yet to be revealed.
In any case, players can expect quite a few changes to Overwatch before the next season of competitive play starts next month, and while we’re really hoping that the “gg ez” change stays, we’re also hoping that the mysterious Sombra character might finally be revealed very soon.
Overwatch is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
