Dishonored 2 Gameplay Trailer Reveal

Dishonored 2 Gameplay Trailer Reveal

Arkane Studios’ Dishonored 2 gets a new official gameplay trailer reveal at E3 2016, and Bethesda’s newest stealth-based game looks like a worthy successor to the series.

It speaks volumes for a game like Dishonored 2 when it’s chosen to close the E3 2016 presentation of a company as huge as Bethesda. On a night where the publishing giant featured games like The Elder Scrolls: Legends, a brand new Quake, and a Skyrim: Special Edition remaster for current-generation consoles, it was Arkane Studios’ Dishonored 2 that took center stage and ended the conference on a high note.

During a feature that took well over twenty minutes, Bethesda showcased a lengthy demonstration that showed off a lot of the Dishonored 2 power combinations that excited fans have been clamoring over for months. Just when the show looked over, however, Arkane Studios’ designer Harvey Smith hit fans in attendance with one more bombshell – a brand new gameplay trailer, complete with chilling music and epic storytelling.

The video was, thankfully for Bethesda and Arkane, one that was quite different from the Dishonored 2 E3 trailer that leaked just hours before the presentation. The trailer showcases both Emily and Corvo as they exhibit some of the powers gamers can expect to employ over the course of Dishonored 2‘s narrative, which was also on prominent display as Emily increasingly found herself in tricky situations surrounded by desperate odds. The entire city of Karnaca also seems to degrade in front of the viewer’s eyes – clearly things will get worse before they get better for the two assassins.

Although an earlier comment from Smith during the presentation indicated that Corvo would be getting upgraded versions of the powers that made him famous in the first Dishonored, the clear star of the show in Dishonored 2 is Emily Kaldwin. The abilities granted to her by the Outsider, the game’s supernatural deity-figure, show that Arkane Studios’ has had no trouble in coming up with even more fascinating powers for gamers to toy with. Emily isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty the old-fashioned way either, however – the new gameplay trailer isn’t afraid to show her using a knife to great effect in several different scenes.

It’s clear from Bethesda’s approach to E3 2016 that Dishonored 2 is the title it expects to carry the company through the rest of the year. While news about Fallout 4 on the VR is huge, it’s not an entirely new property, and it looks like gamers will be trading in post-apocalyptic Boston for Dishonored 2‘s sunny Karnaca come November this year.
