Halo 5 Fan Creates Quidditch Game Mode & Map

One incredibly talented Halo 5: Guardians fan creates a brand new map and game mode for 343 Industries’ first-person shooter inspired by Quidditch from Harry Potter.
Thanks to Halo 5: Guardians fan and YouTuber Hugabear Xx, 343 Industries’ sci-fi title has been injected with a bit of fantasy from the world of Harry Potter. Using assets from the game’s Forge Mode, the player created a fresh map complete with a new game mode called Quidditch Arena, which mimics the sport from the book and film series.
Of course, since Halo 5 barely contains any elements similar to those found in the Harry Potter universe, Hugabear Xx had to make some compromises in order to bring Quidditch to life within the game. For example, instead of Spartans actually flying around on broomsticks like in J.K. Rowling’s stories, players wield Gravity Hammers and Energy Swords to complete the objective of grabbing the ball taken from the recent Grifball update and scoring it through one of the hoops on the opposing ends of the field.
As seen in the video below, Hugabear Xx did a great job of recreating the Quidditch towers seen in the Harry Potter movies, and even added some subtle touches to reflect the world of Halo 5, by putting various stars and UNSC insignia on the structures. Not to mention, the fact that fans now have a brand new mode that’s absolutely free should put a smile on their faces, especially if they’re fans of Hogwarts. Those who wish to download Quidditch Arena can either search for it by name, or by the user xXHugabearXx.
This isn’t the first time that Halo 5 fans have created a sports game crossover within 343 Industries’ first-person shooter. As it happens, a couple of weeks ago, players remade Rocket League using Ghosts for vehicles, providing players with a fun alternative to the majority of the title’s modes revolving around blasting opponents with weaponry. Of course, folks could still shoot the competition if they wanted to, but it wasn’t the main objective.
Interestingly enough, it seems as if there’s a substantial overlap when it comes to video game fans and Potterheads, as it was also recently discovered that Dying Light has a Harry Potter Easter egg within the game, much to the delight of the survival-horror title’s community. However, at this point, should developers wish to truly pay homage to the sorcery-driven series, they would do well to create a title that not only does justice to the boy wizard’s story, but also provides sturdy gameplay elements, as there have been many video game adaptations of Harry Potter that ended up being absolute dreck.
In any event, while Hugabear Xx’s Quidditch Arena for Halo 5 isn’t a full-fledged conversion of the fantasy series, it’s still a neat little addition that fans of both franchises can enjoy. With any luck, though, we’ll see an official Harry Potter title in the future that’s worth playing.
