Destiny's New PvP Mode Crimson Doubles Detailed

Bungie details Destiny‘s upcoming Crimson Days event, which features Crimson Doubles, a new PvP game mode that buffs players when their partner is dead.

The next big addition on the horizon for Destiny is another live event, which Bungie has dubbed Crimson Days. Like the game’s Halloween celebration, Festival of the Lost, Crimson Days is in observance of Valentine’s Day.

The biggest feature of Crimson Days is a new Crucible gametype called Crimson Doubles. It’s essentially a mashup of Elimination (the Trials of Osiris gametype) and Doubles, with an extra twist.

Much like Trials of Osiris, there is no matchmaking for finding a partner, so a duo of players will be required to form a fireteam and then enter into the playlist to face off against another pair. As is standard in the Elimination gametype, the match will end when one team wins five rounds. That also means players have one life to live unless they are revived. But unlike Trials of Osiris, level advantages are not enabled.

The twist is a new buff called ‘Broken Heart’ that will activate when a player’s partner dies, thereby maxing out the alive player’s Armor, Agility, Recovery, and Weapon Handling speed. According to Bungie, “the Broken Heart buff will last until you revive your fallen comrade, until the round ends, or until you fall in combat yourself.”

Crimson Doubles and the Crimson Days event will be active for a limited time between February 9th and February 16th. During that time players can pick up special event bounties and quests from Lord Shaxx in the Tower. One of those quests is called “Crimson Bonds” and completing it will net a Crimson Days emblem. Much like Sparrow Racing League, there is a limited amount of maxed 320 Light gear that can drop. In Crimson Day’s case, it will be Ghost Shells that can drop at up to 320 Light.

There is also an item called Crimson Candy that will boost experience for an entire fireteam:

When a Guardian consumes a Crimson Candy, they share a Crimson Connection with all of the other members in their current Fireteam that boosts experience gains on all equipped weapons for 30 minutes.

Also, Eververse will be restocked with new items to purchase with Silver, Destiny’s microtransaction currency. Five new themed emotes will be available, including ones called Secret Greeting, Fist Bump, and Charm. These emotes can only be purchased during Crimson Days, but if bought will remain on any characters after the event concludes.
