Black Ops 3's New Zombies Map Brings Back Original Cast

Activsion releases a fresh Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 trailer for Der Eisendrache, the next map for the game’s Zombies mode, featuring the return of Origins characters.

In order to publicize the release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3‘s Awakening DLC, publisher Activision has put out a brand new trailer featuring Origins characters Doctor Edward Richtofen, Sergeant Nikolai Belinski, Captain Takeo Masaki, and Corporal “Tank” Dempsey in the first-person shooter’s new map for its Zombies mode, Der Eisendrache. The quartet of heroes will be up against the undead for what’s essentially a suicide mission in a medieval castle that’s built upon an “ancient site of unspeakable horror” where large amounts of Element 115 – that is, a resource harvested from meteorites – have been discovered.

As is customary with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3‘s Zombies mode, fans should expect to slay hordes of the walking dead in order to survive. However, there will also be plenty of surprises, narrative twists, and Easter eggs to discover along the way, as players attempt to foil yet another Nazi plot in what is just the first chapter in the game’s overarching Zombies adventure.

Thanks to Activision and Sony inking a timed-exclusive DLC deal, on February 2, 2016, PlayStation fans will be the first to receive the new area a month before those who play the game on other platforms, which may be a disappointment to PC players and Xbox One owners. At any rate, the content will still make its way to all versions soon enough, so for a better idea of what the forthcoming Zombies map has in store for players, check out Black Ops 3‘s Der Eisendrache trailer below.

On top of Der Eisendrache, Black Ops 3‘s Awakening DLC will also dole out 4 new multiplayer maps to keep gamers flush with fresh content. Each of the areas have distinctive attributes, with Rise being a construction site, Splash taking place at an abandoned water theme park, Gauntlet letting gamers explore a military facility, and Skyjacked being a floating airship and revamped version the yacht in Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer map, Hijacked.

With Call of Duty‘s Zombies mode arguably being the most popular feature of the franchise, Activision’s and Treyarch’s decision to include throwback characters from the previous entry in the Black Ops series ought to please die-hard fans. Nevertheless, considering the fact that the title’s sales made it 2015’s highest selling game after only being out for a little under two months last year, even if the publisher and developer decided to take Zombies in a completely different direction, the Awakening DLC would still go on to be a rousing success.

What do you think about the looks of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3‘s new Der Eisendrache map for Zombies? Do you believe it will offer up enough content to keep you satisfied until the next DLC expansion pack arrives later this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is out now and is available for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
