Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Gameplay Change

The most recent issue of Famitsu reveals that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will feature a gameplay change besides the added amiibo support.
While fans wait patiently for the new Legend of Zelda for Wii U, Nintendo is releasing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for the system in the meantime to help fill the void. From what we’ve seen of Twilight Princess HD so far, it looks to be a faithful remaster of the original game, but an image from the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu suggests there there will be some small changes to Link’s adventure.
One such change is that there will be fewer Tears of Light for players to collect. As some may recall, the Tears of Light are needed for Link to get rid of the “Twilight” in the area. It is basically just busy work, and not exactly a gameplay feature that many have fond memories of, so it makes sense for Nintendo to lighten the load for the re-release.
Three areas in Twilight Princess feature the Tears of Light to collect: the Faron Province, the Eldin Province, and the Lanayru Province. The Famitsu screenshot, which can be seen below, shows that Link only needs to collect 12 Tears of Light in the Lanayru Province, as opposed to the usual 16. It’s reasonable to assume that there will be less Tears of Light for Link to collect in the other two provinces as well.
This isn’t the only gameplay change coming in Twilight Princess HD. As announced previously, Twilight Princess HD will feature amiibo support, specifically with all the Zelda-based amiibo (like Toon Link and Sheik), as well as the new Wolf Link amiibo, which will come bundled with day one versions of the game. The amiibo will add additional gameplay features, but Nintendo is still mum on what they will do exactly.
Furthermore, other gameplay changes are expected for Twilight Princess HD as well. The end of the Twilight Princess HD reveal trailer promised as much, and it’s doubtful that it was in reference to the fewer Tears of Light in the game. It’s possible that these unknown gameplay changes are related to the amiibo functionality, but Nintendo hasn’t clarified. These new gameplay features could be new areas or items, or perhaps even a cameo from Link’s female counterpart, Linkle.
Regardless, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was critically-acclaimed at the time of its release, and with or without new gameplay features, it is sure to be a great game again on the Wii U. With the new content that will be included in the game, Twilight Princess HD will likely be the definitive way to experience it, and luckily we won’t have to wait long to find out.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will be available beginning March 4, exclusively for the Wii U.
