Move over pulse rifles, the MIDA Multi-Tool is the new king of Destiny’s Crucible. According to a new PvP tracking service called Guardian.gg, which offers comprehensive stats about player behavior in the Crucible, it looks like Destiny players are finding a new favorite: the Year 2 version of the MIDA.
According to Guardian.gg, the MIDA Multi-Tool has lifted the scout rifles from a measly eight percent usage in Crucible to around 20 percent. That’s a serious increase, especially considering that any other time a gun class made those numbers, it was due to players using a range of guns rather than just one.
As often happens in Destiny, once a small number of players discover the power of a certain weapon or weapon class in the Crucible, it isn’t long before others adopt the gun for their own setup. However, in the past players had to grind their way to the latest Crucible-dominating gun, which helped keep usage down among players, at least until Bungie caught on and nerfed the weapon. But in the case of the MIDA Multi-Tool, it seems the cat was out of the bag just in time for Xur to sell it to any and all players looking to lay waste to enemy players.
In the past, the dominating weapons were often found to be overpowered, which pushed Bungie to reduce the gun’s stats to help balance the field of weapons. But for many players, that’s not the case with MIDA Multi-Tool; players seem to feel it’s balanced, despite the increase in usage. It’s possible players may be trying to keep each other from complaining too much about the gun’s power online in an effort to keep Bungie from nerfing it, but considering how much it’s currently being used, the lack of complaints may not help. It’s quite possible Bungie will note the massive increase in usage and decide to nerf the MIDA Multi-Tool to sway players in other directions.
In fact, the team at Bungie may even decide to nerf the whole lot of scout rifles just to be safe. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, though, especially if the MIDA Multi-Tool really isn’t overpowered.
It’ll be interesting to see how Bungie responds to the uptick in MIDA Multi-Tool usage in Crucible over the next couple weeks. We’ll keep a close eye on the weekly updates to see if the developer has any plans for the weapon.
What do you think about the increase in MIDA Multi-Tool usage in Destiny’s Crucible? Do you think the gun is overpowered, or did players just discover its true power? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
