With Microsoft’s Project Scorpio console set to release later this year, gamers are hungry for information about the powerful gaming machine. While Microsoft has kept much of the details about Project Scorpio secret, it has teased a few details that have gamers excited for the console’s potential.
The latest tease for Project Scorpio comes from Halo boss Frank O’Connor who shared his perspective on the console’s abilities. Writing on NeoGAF in response to questions from gamers, O’Connor shared that while he can’t remember all the details about Project Scorpio’s specs, he does recall the impressive power the console possesses, with the Halo director saying:
“Haha, although I probably ‘know’ [what Project Scorpio’s specs are] in that I might have seen it in a slide or something, it’s literally not something I have time to think about now and I actually couldn’t remember whatever specs I’ve been exposed to even if I was tortured. I literally couldn’t leak or answer a question that went beyond, ‘Can I do this? Does it support that? How many of these could it render?’ What I do remember is that it’s beefier than I expected.”
While this small bit of information could easily be considered biased seeing as it’s coming from the head of Halo, it’s still enough to get gamers talking about how it will handle upcoming games, including a new Halo title. And while Microsoft has yet to reveal Halo 6, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Xbox release the next chapter in the Halo universe alongside the new flagship console.
It’s important to note, though, that while Project Scorpio sports 6 teraflops worth of power, Xbox head Phil Spencer has been adamant that none of the previous released Xbox One consoles will be left out of future game releases. That means players can look forward to improved graphics and frame rates with Project Scorpio, along with quicker load times for most games.
It also means there’s huge potential for virtual reality on Project Scorpio, which isn’t necessarily something that has to be made available on Xbox One or Xbox One S, at least at the levels it can be on Project Scorpio. And with Microsoft working to prepare its HoloLens project for launch, there’s plenty of potential when matching the two devices together.
Hopefully, Project Scorpio will live up to the hype and generate the sales Microsoft is hoping for. After the PS4 Pro’s specs disappointed some gamers – especially the omission of a 4K Blu-Ray player – Microsoft is poised for a strong showing with Project Scorpio that could help it close the gap between the two companies’ console sales. Plus, with Project Scorpio ringing in at “console-level” pricing, there’s much to look forward to with the new Microsoft gaming machine.
What do you think about O’Connor’s comments about Project Scorpio?
Project Scorpio is due for launch holiday 2017, but there’s no official word on a new Halo title at launch.
