Over the weekend a group of Destiny streamers hosted the second ever Streamer Racing League and raised over $15,000 for St. Jude. The event, streamed live on Twitch, took advantage of Sparrow Racing League, which is currently active in Destiny thanks to the game’s December live event, The Dawning.
Streamer Racing League began last year with a group of streamers, including King Gothalion, Professor Broman, and Charionna. This year, Charionna championed the event, organizing it and involving both large and small, unpartnered streamers on Twitch’s Destiny directory.
This is the first event organized by this group of streamers since the marathon stream earlier this year just ahead of Destiny Community Con. This is all leading to next year’s (now renamed) Guardian Con that hopes to raise one million dollars for St. Jude. The donation goal for this year’s Streamer Racing League was $10,000 and fans donating to the stream crushed that goal.
So due to some pending E checks, looks like Streamer Racing League passed its stretch goal of $15,000 raised for @StJude!

The community-led event was hosted by various Destiny streamers, including the aforementioned Charionna, King Gothalion, Professor Broman, Real Kraftyy, and MyNameisByf. Streamer and YouTuber Chadlantis was the winner of the Streamer Racing League this year, but the real winner was St. Jude.
This past year, this same group of Twitch streamers conducted a week-long marathon stream hosted by various Destiny streamers. That stream ended in over $500,000 raised for St. Jude. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a world leader for treatment and research in childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Considering how popular last year’s event was, it’s easy to see the first annual Guardian Con raising large sums for St. Jude’s. For those curious, Guardian Con will take place in June 2017, and that $15,000 will go towards the overall one million dollar goal fans hope to raise by the end of that weekend.
As for Destiny, Sparrow Racing League, along with the entire content added in The Dawning, will take fans to the end of the year. The Dawning will end January 3rd, and after that Bungie has promised that it will once again start the conversation about what’s next for Destiny. Despite saying it has plans for Destiny in 2017, Bungie has not let go any details about what, if anything, could be coming before a full fledged sequel due out in 2017.
The game has experienced some major content gaps, especially in its second year, so Bungie and publisher Activision are surely hoping to avoid the same dip in content players felt then. However, despite the lack of content at times, events like Streamer Racing League show that the Destiny fanbase continues to be strong and that fans continue to return to the game and the community. Beyond just returning to the game, they have shown time and time again that giving and charity is second nature.
Destiny: Rise of Iron is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
