Are Destiny Items Hinting at New Content Coming Soon?

Destiny fans discover more than 80 “Classified” items in the game’s database, which is leading some to believe that a new live event or content drop could be coming in the near future.

Destiny has gotten its biggest shot in the arm since the launch of Rise of Iron in September, especially since October’s Festival of the Lost was a flop, and left Destiny fans wanting much more. The Dawning, active now until January 3rd, made improvements to the Destiny live event formula bringing back Sparrow Racing League, adding new exotics, and introducing Strike Scoring.

But once The Dawning comes to an end in early 2017, Destiny fans have very little to look forward to. Yes, Destiny 2 is slated to launch—presumably—in the fall of next year, but despite Bungie teasing that there are plans to keep Destiny content fresh in 2017, no roadmap has been given as to what that means. However, fans have data mined the Destiny database, and found a number of items that could be hinting at new content hitting the game in the not-too-distant future.

A user by the name of xxoACEoxx posted the information of the Destiny subreddit, revealing that the Destiny database now contains 84 new items, which are all listed as “Classified”. Here’s an example of what one of the entries looks like:

“-1746940505 “”{“”””itemHash””””:2548026791″ itemName””:””Classified”” itemDescription””:””All will be revealed in time young Padawan.””

Bungie obviously hid the information, even adding in the “All will be revealed in time young Padawan” text, obviously knowing that its fan base would likely discover the additions. Every new item looks the same, with a different combination of numbers.

Some commenters on Reddit are bringing up the idea of Bungie bringing back the old raids like Vault of Glass and Crota’s End, and those new items possibly being updated versions of the armor and/or weapons from those raids. Bungie has said for a long time that it has considered bringing back the old raids, but its focus has been traditionally been on bringing new content, not updating the old.

Just as those entries remain a mystery, so too do the specifics of what the future of Destiny holds. This past year, Bungie debuted the April Update to jumpstart the game again, adding Challenge of the Elders, raising the Light level, and giving players new gear to chase. It’s possible that Bungie could be planning a similar event in the Spring of 2017 before turning fans’ full attention onto the sequel in the second half of 2017.

Bungie has promised that it will start up the conversation about Destiny‘s future after the New Year, so we’ll all have to wait until then to learn more.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
