‘Dishonored’ 1st DLC Released Date Announced; Sales Exceeding Expectations

Though talk of a sequel to Dishonored has already begun it will only be after official sales numbers for the game have been revealed that such a discussion could significantly gain traction. While publisher Bethesda has yet to reveal any specific sales numbers regarding Dishonored they have, however, come out to proclaim Arkane Studios’ supernatural assassin title is exceeding expectations.
Moreover, they are using the rousing success of Dishonored to further fuel talk of said sequel. More importantly than talk of a sequel, though, Bethesda has hinted that strong sales over this Black Friday weekend — which saw Dishonored reaching the #1 spot on Steam — could mean we have a venerable franchise on our hands, one to contend with the likes of Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
Speaking with Destructoid, Bethesda’s Pete Hines had this to say about Dishonored‘s sales numbers:
“I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter. We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the #1 selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas.”
And for those gamers who, like us, found Dishonored to be an enjoyable and unique experience (read our review), the wait won’t be too long for additional content. Earlier in the month Arkane revealed their DLC plan for the game — which would include three single player releases — and have today announced a release date, December 11th, for the first pack called ‘Dunwall City Trials’.
As the name suggests, this particular DLC will be more focused on using the world of Dishonored as a sandbox playground rather than extending the story. Players will be presented with 10 different challenge maps, each with a specific objective, and given some stretch of freedom with which to complete said objective.
While the press release doesn’t talk specifics, some of the examples given include assassinating targets or fending off waves of guards and tallboys (horde mode?). Yes, more single player content is what most fans would prefer, and is planned for DLC packs 2 and 3, but an opportunity to play around with the various weapons and abilities sounds intriguing.
Thankfully, the DLC is modestly priced ($4.99 or 400 MS Points), so it won’t be breaking any gamers wallets or leaving then questioning the value proposition.
