Every month, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can look forward to four free games spread evenly across Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Microsoft has now revealed what games fans can look forward to next month, which should be a relatively strong month for the Xbox Games with Gold program with plenty of variety.
Starting December 1st and until December 31st, Gold subscribers can download Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition free of charge. A remaster of the underrated open world action from the now-defunct United Front Games, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition boasts generally improved gameplay, graphics, and audio when compared to the original, not to mention three story expansions that greatly expand on the experience. The demise of United Front Games means we probably won’t see a true sequel, but it’s still a game worth checking out for fans of the open world action game genre.
For those that are more into horror games, the game being added from December 16th to January 15th may be a bit more interesting. From those dates, Gold subscribers will have the chance to download Outlast, a creepy first-person horror game that was well-received at the time of its release. It’s possible Microsoft is making the original Outlast one of the free Games with Gold games for December to hype players for the upcoming sequel.
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition and Outlast are solid games, but things aren’t looking too shabby on the Xbox 360 side of things either. The first game Xbox 360 owners can look forward to is Outland, an innovative side-scroller with some Metroidvania elements, which will be free to download from December 1st to December 15th. And has been the case for months now, this means that Xbox One owners will be able to download and play Outland for free in December as well.
Xbox One’s backward compatibility with Xbox 360 games also extends to the second 360 offering in December. From December 16th to December 31st, fans will have the chance to download the critically-acclaimed Burnout Paradise for free. Burnout Paradise was actually one of the first games teased for the backward compatibility lineup, so it’s nice that it’s finally debuting on the service, and that it will be free for all Gold subscribers.
Burnout Paradise coming to the lineup of free Games with Gold games in December should go a long way in rejuvenating the game’s online multiplayer community. While they wait to jump back into the online racing world of Burnout Paradise, however, gamers should be sure to download November 2016’s free Games with Gold games before they expire.
Xbox‘s next Games with Gold period begins on December 1st.
