Special Halo Event Coming Tuesday for 15th Anniversary

343 Industries announces a variety of fun events for the 15th anniversary of Halo: Combat Evolved this Tuesday, including a live stream on Twitch and a special Halo 5 playlist.

Halo: Combat Evolved released on November 15, 2001. That means that this Tuesday is the 15-year-anniversary of the iconic first-person shooter and 343 Industries intends to celebrate the occasion. The current Halo developer announced last week that a special live stream will be held on Twitch at, appropriately, 3:43 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday.

But that’s not the only thing fans can look forward to; 343 Industries will also release a special Anniversary Throwback playlist for Halo 5 that features remakes of classic maps using Halo 5‘s Forge Tools. 343 developers plan to be online throughout the day to play some of these classic maps with fans.

A short teaser for the live stream was uploaded to the official Halo YouTube page on Friday:

343 offered further details about the celebration in a new blog post, explaining that the stream will feature a walkthrough of the Halo museum and a collection of favorite memories from the devs and the community. 343 will also use the event to look towards the future, with the post stating that the devs will “talk Halo Wars 2.” Fans who tune into the stream may also have an opportunity to win some free stuff, including a Halo Loot Crate, which will be unboxed live on-stream.

While this event is mostly focused on the anniversary of the franchise, 343 notes that they may also discuss some of the upcoming DLC for Halo 5. The game’s next major update will add new maps for WarZone Firefight, new Forge canvases, an “improved spectator experience,” and the ability to join custom games on both Xbox One and PC.

For those interested in what the game has done recently, Halo 5‘s most recent expansion, Anvil’s Legacy, dropped in September and added a new map and weapons. Around that same time was also when 343 Industries added Forge to the PC versions of the game.

All in all, it sounds like 343 has a pretty nice day planned for longtime fans of the franchise. Halo certainly has come a long ways since its days on the first Xbox and even changed developers in the process. It’s unlikely that Bungie will be involved in the proceedings, as the developer is plenty busy with its new franchise, Destiny, but it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for the devs to pay their respects either. We will have to wait and see this Tuesday.

Halo 5: Guardians is available now for Xbox One and PC.
