There are some people that like to criticize the Call of Duty franchise by saying it never changes from one entry to the next. However, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is making numerous changes to the franchise’s tried-and-true formula, which includes the introduction of Combat Rigs to multiplayer. Combat Rigs are a twist on class-based multiplayer gameplay, and are a big part of how people will play the multiplayer mode in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, so Activision has released a trailer explaining them to fans.
In total, there are six Combat Rigs in the game. Each Combat Rig caters to a specific playstyle, and comes with its own Payload (weapons and gadgets) and Traits (persistent perks). For example, the Warfighter rig is designed for mid-ranged combat, and has the Ping Trait, which makes any nearby enemies appear on the radar after killing one of their teammates. According to the new trailer, the Warfighter rig is best for players looking to achieve objectives as quickly as possible.
The Warfighter rig is joined by five others, including the Stryker rig, which is focused on tactical gameplay, and the Phantom rig allows players to function as a stealth sniper. Another stealth rig in Infinite Warfare is the FTL rig, which focuses more on close-quarters combat than the Phantom rig. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare also has its own take on the standard “heavy” class, which takes the form of the Merc rig, as well as a melee rig called Synaptic, which is “optimized for speed” and allows players to play as a robot.
Combat Rigs represent the biggest change coming to Call of Duty‘s multiplayer with this year’s game, so some fans may be skeptical about them. Luckily, anyone curious about Combat Rigs will have a chance to test them out ahead of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s launch next month, as at least a few of the rigs will be available to use in the game’s upcoming multiplayer beta. However, players will have to pre-order Infinite Warfare in order to get access to the beta, so keep that in mind.
Anyone that is planning on picking up Infinite Warfare might as well pre-order the game, though. Not only does it grant access to the multiplayer beta, but it also gives players the Terminal remake bonus map set on the moon, in addition to some bonus items for the Zombies in Spaceland mode. Of course, it’s possible for people curious about Combat Rigs to pre-order the game, play the beta, and then cancel their pre-order right away if they’re not impressed.
Combat Rigs are looking to add some more variety to the Call of Duty multiplayer formula, and fans don’t have to wait much longer to find out if they’re successful or not. That’s because Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, one of the most anticipated games of holiday 2016, is set to launch in just a few weeks.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be available on November 4, 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
