For many gamers, the release of Activision’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on November 4 will certainly be one of 2016’s most anticipated gaming launches, no doubt in part due to the bundling of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered with the Legacy editions of the upcoming shooter. While there are still a few weeks to go before launch day, those intending to buy the Legacy edition of Infinite Warfare may want to start clearing space on their hard drives for what appears to be an enormous installation.
After a French retailer sent out empty game boxes to those who pre-ordered Infinite Warfare, Charlie Intel tweeted a picture of a game box and reported that the PlayStation 4 versions of the game will require at least 130GB of space. At the time of writing, Legacy edition pre-orderers have been given early access to the Modern Warfare Remastered campaign, which is already approximately 40GB in size, meaning that Infinite Warfare will take up anywhere between 70 to 90GB alone, though the exact size breakdown is not yet been confirmed.

Given that Activision deemed Modern Warfare Remastered as the studio’s “biggest bonus content ever”, this size requirement comes as a bit of a surprise. By comparison, the previous two titles in the series, Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare, each required “only” 55GB of free space.
Even with the increasing space requirements of video games these days, the uncommonly large file size of the Legacy edition of Infinite Warfare is something of an anomaly and there could be a number of reasons for this. With last month’s reveal that both Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered will be compatible with the PlayStation 4 Pro, perhaps the additional space requirement is to take advantage of the upcoming console’s extra processing power.
For those who are on the fence about dedicating 130GB to the two upcoming Call of Duty titles, they can test out the game via the Infinite Warfare multiplayer beta taking place later this month, which will undoubtedly require far less space than the full game. Should the enormous size requirements not deter people from buying the game, players will have the choice between purchasing digital or physical versions of the shooter, though those opting for the physical version should be reminded that the Infinite Warfare disc is required in order to play Modern Warfare Remastered.
One thing is for sure though, with the release of Infinite Warfare just a month away, it won’t be long before we all find out why the game requires a whopping 130GB of space.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered are scheduled for release on November 4, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
